Goals, Purposes, and Activities


The La Jolla Shores Association (LJSA) is involved in a wide range of projects including:

o Proposing and supporting projects for Neighborhood Protection and Beautification


o Monitoring, enforcing, and representing the community's interests in the Planned District Ordinance (Appoints members of LJ Shores Permit Review Committee)


o Monitoring, preserving, and enhancing our parks, beaches, and shoreline


o Traffic & Transportation project and issue review and recommendation

o Protecting and improving the La Jolla Shores retail business district

o Preserving and enhancing the local environment of La Jolla Shores


o Providing recommendations to the City Park & Recreation Dept regarding all parks and public recreation facilities within our boundaries including La Jolla Shores, Kellogg Park, Laureate Park, Cliffridge Park, and Allen Field


o Serving as liaison with other organizations and government representatives and as advocate for community interests before the City Planning Commission,the San Diego City Council, and other government agencies


o Coordination with the La Jolla Town Council, the La Jolla Community Planning Association, and other civic organizations


o Conducting forums on community issues

o Assisting the Friends of La Jolla Shores – a non-profit public benefit corporation responsible for building and maintaining “The Map”®, the Children’s Playground at La Jolla Shores, JJ the WhaleTM statue and sunshade, and other projects





No dues are required and all board members are unpaid volunteers.  The activities of our organization require correspondence, record keeping, insurance, and presentations to the city that require funds.  We appreciate your annual donation in lieu of a membership fee to help support us in our efforts to keep La Jolla Shores an outstanding and safe community.

LJSA is classified as a 501(c)(4) tax exempt organization (Civic Leagues and Social Welfare Organizations) by the IRS. Donations to organizations of this category are often not tax deductible, so please consult with your own tax advisor on such matters.


Directions to LJSA Meetings


Take La Jolla Shores Drive North (from La Jolla Shores Parkway). Turn Left at Naga Way, the Naga Entrance to Scripps Institution of Oceanography. At the fork bear right, you are on Biological Grade. Go north on Biological Grade, up the hill, approximately .2 miles and park in parking lot “PO11 or PO12”. Walk to building T-29.
